New Zealand to roll out nationwide anal swab coronavirus test

New Zealand has made anal COVID-19 swabs mandatory for all front-line workers, a report said Wednesday.

The government has claimed that such tests provide a higher degree of accuracy than other screening methods for the virus, Jacinda Ardern announced.

As part of the new testing requirement, there will be testing hubs in all major citis, the outlet reported.

Ashley Bloomfield said that the anal swabs are better because virus traces stay longer in fecal samples than they do in the nose or throat.

New Zealand has been willing to take extreme measures to stop the spread of Covid-19, locking down entire cities to contain outbreaks, quarantining new arrivals for lengthy periods of time and there are reports of forced testing.

As cases continue to rise ahead of winter, New Zealand has introduced anal swabs as a new type of coronavirus test that could hopefully detect the virus more accurately.
